Noir: Goodis's Playground - Lynch's Hell

A portion of the original Tenderloin lives on as Callowhill and Chinatown’s northern annex, sometimes called the Loft District, or Eraserhead by cinema buffs who pay homage to the inspiration of David Lynch's movie of the same name, inspiration that is now a U-Haul parking lot. Meanwhile in the former Furnished Room District, very little movement has been made to develop what remains.  The district consists of poorly maintained surface parking lots.

Even if one wouldn't be interested in David Lynch's nightmares, wandering out in the evening and opening their doors to migle with their neighbors would be a welcome change to a neighborhood that's been hiding in its own shadows since long before David Lynch ever set foot here.

But before Lynch, this was Goodis's laboratory.  Goodis thrived on research and there was plenty to be had.  A short bus ride, a brief train ride or a hitched car ride, Goodis could be in the Tenderlion/Furnished Room/Waterfront/Dock Street District in minutes from his parents home in East Oak Lane.  It was another world.  The Congo! The Pulse! The Living!

Blaze Starr wowed men in clubs across the country. She "Miss Spontaneous Combustion"

  1. Did anybody count how many pieces of clothing Ms. Starr took off? Some of those underpinnings were pretty complicated.
