BABY NOIR by Kazuki Kozuru-salifoska

NOIR, BABY, NOIR

I picked black – noir – because I couldn’t find any baby clothing in the color, and I wanted that option for my baby.  I am a New Yorker, and we wear black all the time.  I made a few garments in the beginning, and people asked me to make some for their babies, then I thought I should share it with the world.

We New Yorkers wear black a lot because:

1.       Black makes anyone look polished.

2.       Black makes us feel strong.  Think Darth Vader. Hahaha. Really, it’s sort of a cold color, isn’t it?  serious and stand-alone-ish.  Although in a room full of black-clad people, you are hardly alone on the boat.

3.       Stains don’t show much on black.

4.       We don’t have to spend much time thinking about the outfit in the morning.  Head to toe black. Done.

I lean towards the reason #3 and 4, and there must be other reasons, but here it is.  Black might be a depressing color to some, but to majority of New Yorkers, that doesn’t even cross our minds.  I guess living in New York City seem depressing already to some people, so that’s that.

I make baby clothing in black, because I couldn’t find any that I liked in this country.  In Japan, where I am from, and France, where I’ve visited, babies and kids wear black just like any other color.  I am not saying kids should wear black all the time, but I would like to have an option.  It is not for everyone, and that is okay.  There are enough parents who appreciate my vision and products for me to feel right.  My baby wears all kinds of colors with me, including black that I make.
