

Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell have both signed on to star in “London Boulevard,” a crime drama that marks William Monahan’s directing debut. Monahan, who won an Oscar for “The Departed” as screenwriter, adapted the Ken Bruen novel from 2001.
“The actress is pursued by photographers, she takes medications and slowly retreats from the world, shutting herself away until this man from the wrong side of the tracks comes into her life,” said one of the film’s executives.”It’s like a beauty and the beast

The film is set to start shooting this summer in London and surrounding areas.

Directorial Debut for Monahan
William Monahan’s feature film directorial debut “London Boulevard,” starring Academy Award nominated actress Keira Knightley and Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell, begins shooting today, Monday 8th June, in London.
Monahan, an Academy Award winner for “The Departed”, has also written the screenplay for the film, which shoots on location in and around London from 8th June till mid August 2009.
The London based crime drama is produced by Academy Award winner (“The Departed”) Graham King under his GK Films banner alongside Monahan, former MGM executive Quentin Curtis and Tim Headington.
The strong supporting cast includes David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Ben Chaplin and Ray Winstone.
Based on the best selling book by Ken Bruen, “London Boulevard” is the story of a London criminal, newly released from prison, who becomes involved with a reclusive young actress.
After achieving worldwide recognition for her breakout performance in “Bend it Like Beckham,” Keira Knightley has appeared in some of the most successful and acclaimed films of the last few years including “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “Love Actually,” “Pride and Prejudice” for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, “Atonement” for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA, and most recently “The Edge of Love” and “The Duchess.” She can next be seen in Miramax’s “Last Night” and Mark Romanek’s “Never Let Me Go” and is attached to star in “The Beautiful and the Damned” - the true-life story of Zelda Fitzgerald.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe this year for his performance as Best Actor, Comedy or Musical in the indie hit “In Bruges.” Past credits include Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report,” “Phone Booth,” Terence Malick’s Academy Award nominated “The New World,” “The Recruit,” “Daredevil” and “Pride and Glory.” Mr. Farrell can next be seen in the films “Triage” and “Ondine” and recently completed Peter Weir’s “The Way Back.”
David Thewlis was named Best Actor at Cannes for his role in Mike Leigh’s “Naked” and has gone on to star in a wide variety of films including the recently acclaimed “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” and, as Professor Lupin, the blockbuster Harry Potter series.
